The story so far

As a HR Ninja, you may already know my story. I’ve been an ambassador in the group for many years, and one of the privileges of my journey so far was meeting Liz. We bonded as we were both building something of our own, but shared a similar belief: that mental health and wellbeing at work should never be an afterthought.

That’s where my story begins. When I was 18, my dad took his own life. From the outside he appeared to have everything… a great job, a family, talented across so many areas. None of us saw it coming. For years after, I carried the grief, the depression, the anxiety. With time, I started sharing my story online, in workplaces, at events. I felt like I was doing something that truly mattered.

But I wasn’t prepared for what came next.

People began sharing their own stories back. Heavy, raw, deeply difficult conversations, with no structure to hold them safely, and no one to turn to afterwards. The weight of it started to affect my own mental health.

I realised this wasn’t just my experience. Across workplaces everywhere, Mental Health First Aiders were supporting colleagues with little more than a two-day course… no structure, no safeguarding, no ongoing management. And organisations had no visibility of these conversations, what they involved, whether the right help was being given. They were putting their people, and themselves, at serious risk.

That’s why I created Everymind At Work.
